Where the mosque stands on the Casablanca waterfront

Hassan II Mosque stands directly on Casablanca’s Atlantic waterfront. Its location gives the mosque a striking coastal setting, with the Atlantic beside the mosque grounds.

Construction began with the laying of the foundation stone on July 11, 1986. The mosque was inaugurated on August 30, 1993. Its minaret’s height is reported differently: the Foundation gives 200 meters, while Visit Casablanca gives 210 meters.

From Hotel Bellerive, the mosque is about 4.6 km away.

How do Hassan II Mosque tours work?

How do Hassan II Mosque tours work?

Non-Muslim visitors need to join a group tour to enter the prayer hall, ablution room and hammam, and tour times vary with prayer times. The Foundation’s paid guided tour covers the prayer hall, minaret hall and ablution hall.

Guided-tour prices are 30 dirhams for children over 4 and Moroccan students; 70 dirhams for Moroccans, residents and foreign students; and 140 dirhams for foreign adults. Children under 4 are free. A private VIP visit costs 2,200 dirhams for groups of 10 people or fewer, subject to reservation; groups of 100 or more receive a 50% discount.

The Foundation’s English tour page and homepage give different schedules, while seasonal and Ramadan times also vary. Check the official site before you go for the current schedule and ticket information.

Dress, access and visit planning

Dress, access and visit planning

Wear clothing that covers your shoulders and torso and extends below your knees. Shorts and sleeveless clothing are prohibited. Before entering the mosque, remove your shoes and carry them in a bag available at the entrance.

During visits, the Foundation prohibits cigarettes, food and drinks. Visitors are asked to follow the schedule, stay together and remain quiet. Video cameras and radio receivers or other sound devices are prohibited inside the mosque; the published rules do not clarify whether ordinary still photography is permitted.

For safety, do not cross the chains around the Seguia. The Foundation’s published pages do not provide visitor-accessibility details or a recommended visit duration, so contact the Foundation directly if you need to plan around access requirements or timing.

The Atlantic-facing setting is a natural part of a mosque visit: the grounds sit beside the coast, and the waterfront offers an open view of the building’s exterior. Keep to the designated areas around the Seguia, where crossing the chains is prohibited.

The mosque’s museum is another visit option. Regular visiting hours are 09:00–13:30 and 14:30–17:00, with Ramadan hours of 09:00–15:00. Admission is 5 dirhams for children and students, 15 dirhams for Moroccans, foreign students and residents, and 30 dirhams for foreign adults. Groups of 100 or more receive a 50% discount.

If you are planning time in the wider city as well, the mosque can fit into a one-day Casablanca itinerary.
